The first step in using RSS feeds is to log in to the Publisher Dashboard and click Links > Data Feeds > RSS Feeds. Here you will find advertisers that offer their products, coupons, and promotions via RSS feed. These can be placed on your site in two ways: by manually copying the code for them into your site and by creating code so that your site is automatically populated with the output from the feed. Both of these methods are described in the sections below.
Manually Picking Up Links
Here we describe how to manually pick up tracking links for your site from an RSS feed. This will allow you to access an advertiser's latest products and offers without having to log in to the Publisher Dashboard. The first step is to subscribe to a feed. As there are many different RSS readers, there are many different ways to subscribe to an RSS feed. One of the more popular ways is:
- Go to http://www.bloglines.com/
- Click the feed you want from the Publisher Dashboard and copy (Ctrl C) its URL—the LinkSynergy link—from the top of the page.
- Go to your Bloglines page and click Add in the upper right corner, paste the feed's URL into the Blog or Feed URL field, and click Subscribe.
- Select the options on how the feed is displayed, what the access is, and so on.
- Click Subscribe again.
You can subscribe to as many feeds as you want. Once you have subscribed to a few, the next step is to pick up the links from the RSS feed. This can be done simply by right-clicking the individual link you want to place on your site, selecting Copy Shortcut, and pasting the link into the code for your Web site.
Please make sure that the link you pasted is a LinkSynergy link and not a link to the advertiser's Web site. You can test this link by placing it in the browser.
Here we cover how to automatically populate your site with the products of a feed. This is a handy “set-it-and-forget-it” way to keep your site up to date.
A number of websites make it easy to convert an RSS feed into embeddable code. One of them is:
Click on the RSS feed you want from the Publisher Dashboard and copy (Ctrl C) its URL—the LinkSynergy link—from the top of the page.
Copy the code into your site to enable the feed.
Once you have finished this process, the products or offers on your site will automatically update every time the advertiser updates their feed.
